Job description

Working with and for a smile
Jumbo’s ambition is to be the most loved supermarket in the Netherlands and Belgium. We aim to surprise our customers and exceed expectations so they enjoy shopping with us. With over 700 stores, the option to have groceries delivered via jumbo.com, our own distribution centers, and office colleagues, we work together every day to achieve this ambition. Collaborating to win over the customer is what drives us at Jumbo.

Get started! This is what you'll do
As a Container Platform Engineer at Jumbo, you’ll design, operate, and optimize our container platform based on Kubernetes and Amazon EKS. You’ll ensure reliability, security, and scalability while collaborating with development and DevOps teams to enable fast and efficient application delivery. Your responsibilities include:

  • You’ll manage Kubernetes clusters in production, including upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting.
  • You’ll configure and maintain EKS architecture, implement GitOps deployment patterns, and enforce security policies.
  • You’ll also work with tools like Karpenter, Cilium, CoreDNS, Kyverno, and External Secrets Operator.
  • You are integrating AWS services and Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, Helm, and Kustomize.

Together, we are Jumbo: Where you'll work
You’ll join the Container Platform team at our Veghel headquarters, working closely with developers, cloud engineers, and security specialists in an informal, collaborative environment that values initiative and innovation.

Collaboration is at the core of our approach. We work closely with domain-specific cloud engineering teams to support over 60 DevOps teams. Together, we deliver essential infrastructure building blocks tailored to their unique needs.

Profile

At Jumbo, we are looking for go-getters, people with good ideas and the courage to work together on them. We care for each other: our customers, colleagues, and the world around us, and we want to do a little better every day. All our (future) colleagues bring a healthy dose of Jumbo DNA with them, and so do you! Additionally, you also have:

  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS in production
  • Skilled in GitOps, Helm, Kustomize, and IaC tools like Terraform

  • Familiar with AWS services (e.g: EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB/NLB)

  • Knowledge of networking (Cilium experience is a major plus!), RBAC, and container security

  • Experience with observability tools (we use mostly Datadog, and tiny bits of Grafana and Prometheus)

  • Proficient in scripting and troubleshooting complex distributed systems

We offer

At Jumbo, you’ll find a work environment with warmth, enjoyment, and attention for each other. Where you have plenty of room to contribute to our ambition of becoming the most beloved supermarket. Just as you’re there for our customers, we’re there for you. Additionally, you’ll receive:

  • A gross salary between €5.700 - €7.100 per month (based on 40 hours).
  • An annual bonus of max 7.5% of your annual salary, based on organizational goals.
  • 30 days of paid holiday (with the opportunity to buy or sell days of paid holiday) and 8% holiday allowance.
  • You build up a pension through participation in the Pension Fund for the Food Industry.
  • An (electric) lease car. We enjoy working together at the office, but you can also work partly from home.
  • Room for entrepreneurship, growth and development. Not only in your job but also through our Jumbo Academy, online training through GoodHabitz and with a training budget.
  • Daily fresh lunch in our Foodcafé, good coffee and fresh fruit. You can sport daily at our own Jumbo Gym for a small fee.
  • Colleague discounts such as 10% off your groceries, participation in our collective health insurance or discounts through Benefits at Work.
