Working with and for a smile
Jumbo’s ambition is to become the most beloved supermarket in the Netherlands and Belgium. With over 700 stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, the option to have groceries delivered via jumbo.com, our own distribution centers, and dedicated office staff, we work together every day to achieve this ambition. Entrepreneurship with the customer in mind – that’s what we stand for at Jumbo.
As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting Jumbo’s Retail Media ambitions. Retail Media is a rapidly growing business area within Jumbo. Our challenge is to meet the increasing demand for campaigns from advertisers by providing more efficient solutions. This enables us to better support the operational execution of campaigns and to share campaign data in a clear, accurate, and timely manner with our advertisers.
Let’s get started! What you'll be doing
We’re currently setting up a new team primarily focused on delivering campaign results quickly and accurately for our advertisers. This team was created from a business case aimed at realizing our Retail Media data ambitions. As a Data Engineer in this team, you’ll contribute to building a web interface for our advertisers that allows them to easily access their campaign results.
You’ll also contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of new data pipelines and infrastructure. While leveraging existing pipelines, you’ll be expected to propose improvements and maintain them where necessary.
Your work ensures that data from the right sources becomes available in a reliable and scalable way for our analysts, data scientists, and Retail Media products. You’ll collaborate closely with the team’s Senior Data Engineer to make data accessible and usable, contributing directly to data-driven innovation at Jumbo.
We’re starting the build this year, aiming to go live in summer 2026. We have all the necessary data in-house, so we’re not dependent on external parties. After the initial launch, this team will continue to expand on our Retail Media ambitions.
Together, we are Jumbo: This is where you’ll work
There’s a lot happening at Jumbo – we act fast and constantly look for ways to improve things for our customers and colleagues. We encourage you to spot opportunities and take initiative in areas that support our goals. At Jumbo, you’ll work every day with a smile – in an informal atmosphere where there’s room for ideas, humor, and fun.
The Agile team consists of a Product Owner, two Data Engineers, a Backend Developer, Frontend Developer, and a QA Engineer, and you’ll be part of the broader Customer & Assortment department.

At Jumbo, we’re looking for go-getters – people with great ideas and the courage to act on them together. People who care about those around them: our customers, our colleagues, and the world. People who want to do things just a little better every single day. All our (future) colleagues embody the Jumbo DNA – and so do you!
In addition, you bring:

- Basic knowledge of Databricks or similar Spark-based platforms
- Strong SQL skills and experience with basic data processing (data wrangling)

- Insight into dataset refresh strategies and performance optimization
We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn and can quickly adapt to related systems, such as backend APIs. You feel comfortable in a multidisciplinary team and are open to collaboration and coaching. You communicate clearly, think in solutions, and are proactive. Excellent command of English is essential – Dutch is a nice bonus!
At Jumbo, you’ll find a work environment with warmth, enjoyment, and attention for each other. Where you have plenty of room to contribute to our ambition of becoming the most customer-oriented company. Just as you’re there for our customers, we’re there for you. Additionally, you’ll receive:
A gross salary between €4.090 - €5.130 per month (based on 40 hours).- An annual bonus of max 5% of your annual salary, based on organizational goals.
- 30 days of paid holiday (with the opportunity to buy or sell days of paid holiday) and 8% holiday allowance.
