Job description

Working with — and for — a smile

Becoming the most beloved supermarket in the Netherlands and Belgium – that’s our ambition. We want to surprise our customers and exceed their expectations, so that they enjoy doing their shopping with us. With over 700 stores, the option to have groceries delivered via jumbo.com, our own distribution centers, and our colleagues at the head office, we work every day to achieve that goal.

Working together to win the customer’s heart – that’s what we at Jumbo stand for.

We are seeking a DevEx Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. The focus of this role is to develop and maintain our Backstage-based developer portal and streamline developer tooling to improve the overall developer experience across the organization. You’ll be hands-on with core tools like Terraform, GitHub, AWS and Datadog, ensuring our engineers have a reliable, secure, and frictionless platform to build on.

Let’s get to work! What you’ll be doing

  • Build, extend, and maintain our developer portal on suing Backstage to provide a unified and intuitive entry point for developers.
  • Design, implement, and manage infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring scalability, security, and consistency.

  • Administer the GitHub environment and create and maintain building blocks (GitHub Actions) to reduce the cognitive load on developers.

  • Support and improve Azure and AWS-hosted services and infrastructure that underpin developer-facing platforms and tools.

  • Integrate and leverage tools like Datadog to improve visibility, reliability, and performance.

  • Participate in a shared “Hero of the Week”, assisting teams with platform-related issues and helping them to be self-sufficient. It also involves an on-call rotation.

  • Partner with engineering teams to understand developer pain points, and contribute to documentation, best practices, and knowledge sharing.

We are Jumbo: your new workplace

There’s always something happening at Jumbo — no two days are the same. We move fast, adapt quickly, and constantly look for ways to improve for our customers and colleagues.
You’re encouraged to spot opportunities, take initiative, and contribute to our shared goals. With an informal atmosphere, plenty of room for creativity, and a good sense of humor, you’ll work at Jumbo every day with a smile.

Profile

At Jumbo, we look for go-getters, people with great ideas and the courage to turn them into reality together.
We care about one another: our customers, our colleagues, and the world around us. And every day, we aim to do things just a little bit better. All our (future) colleagues share a healthy dose of Jumbo DNA, and so do you!

In addition, you bring:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Terraform (infrastructure automation) and GitHub (source control, workflows, CI/CD).

  • Experience working with cloud services like AWS & Azure.

  • Proven ability to build or improve developer tooling and platforms in a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to support and enable developers across teams.

  • Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog or other tools like it.

  • Familiarity with modern software development practices and standards, and experience with Node.js or Python.

We offer

At Jumbo, you’ll find a workplace full of warmth, fun, and genuine care for one another. Here, you’ll have every opportunity to contribute to our ambition of becoming the most customer-oriented company.
And just as you’re there for our customers, we’re there for you.

You can count on:

  • A gross monthly salary between €5,700 and €7,300 (based on a 40-hour workweek).
  • An annual bonus of up to 7.5% of your yearly salary, based on company performance.
  • 30 vacation days, with the option to buy or sell extra days, plus 8% holiday allowance. You’ll also build your pension through the Food Industry Pension Fund.
  • Travel allowance of €0.21 per kilometer (up to 35 km one way). We love working together at our HQ, but you can also work partly from home.
  • Plenty of room for entrepreneurship, growth, and development — not only in your role, but also through the Jumbo Academy, GoodHabitz online training, and a personal learning budget.
  • A delicious and varied lunch in our Food Café, great coffee, and fresh fruit every day. For a small fee, you can also work out in our Jumbo Gym.
  • Attractive employee discounts, including 10% off your groceries (up to €325 per year), participation in our collective health insurance, and extra savings through Benefits at Work.
